White House Chief Health Adviser Anthony Fauci on Sunday urged Americans traveling through the holiday season to boost their COVID-19 vaccine and always wear masks in crowded public spaces to help slowing down the spread of the Omicron variant.
The easily transmitted variant is “spreading rapidly around the world” and travel will increase the risk of infection even among those vaccinated, said Dr. Fauci in an interview with NBC television.
“There is no doubt that we will see infections even among those who have been vaccinated.” tha dr. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases.
Omicron has been identified in more than 20 U.S. states and about 90 countries around the world so far, after being first identified in South Africa and Hong Kong in late November.

US President Joe Biden will address the country on Tuesday to announce the measures the government is taking in response to the growing number of cases caused by the variant.
