Israeli forces have arrested four Palestinians suspected of being linked to last week’s attack, which left one person dead in the West Bank, said Shin Bet, Israel’s security agency.
Three Jewish students were shot while in a car. The attack took place on December 16 near the Homesh community. One person died and two others were injured, authorities said.
The suspects were arrested north of the West Bank, in the village of Silat al-Haaretia near the city of Jenin. Israeli police have released rifles and ammunition, which they said belonged to the suspects.
Israeli authorities have not released the identities of those arrested, but said investigations are still ongoing.
Several Palestinian groups had welcomed the attack, but none of them claimed responsibility for it.
The arrests of four Palestinians come after weeks of violence, as Palestinians have attacked Israelis and killed Palestinians by Israeli troops during clashes.
Earlier in December, a Palestinian assailant stabbed a Jew in the Old City of Jerusalem. One week before the incident, a Hamas militant opened fire on the Old City, killing an Israeli.
At the same time, violence against Palestinians has increased, especially in the north West Bank.
The United Nations envoy for peace in the Middle East, Tor Wennesland, said on December 17 that he was “alarmed by the escalation of violence in the occupied West Bank, including the east of Jerusalem, which has taken the lives of Israelis and Palestinians.” .
