Gjirokastra Police has hit a case of smuggling of goods for which excise is paid, as a result of which a person has been handcuffed, while the customs officer of the Kakavija Customs Branch has been prosecuted for abuse of office.
“Following the work to prevent, identify and crack down on smuggling, the specialists of the Economic-Financial Crime Investigation Section in DVP Gjirokastra arrested in flagrante delicto the citizen EM, 40 years old, resident in Gjirokastra.
The arrest of this citizen was made after the control exercised in his vehicle type “BMW”, on the road axis Kakavije-Gjirokastra, were found meat products, cigarette packs and other food products, which this citizen has introduced in the Republic of Albania, without declaring them at the Kakavije Customs Branch “, reports the police.
The police informs that from the control exercised in the warehouse owned by this citizen, other suspected smuggled goods were found and seized.
At the end of the investigative actions, the criminal offense “Abuse of duty” was prosecuted, citizen AO, 31 years old, resident in Gjirokastra, with customs duty at the Customs Office Kakavije.
The goods and the vehicle were seized as material evidence.
The materials in charge of the above citizens were forwarded to the Prosecution at the Gjirokastra Court of First Instance, for further action.
