The 9-year school “Vaçe Zela” and the gymnasium “Kristo Frashëri”, an investment for more than 1350 children of Unit 9 and Unit 11 in Tirana, have finally resolved the issue of education in these two units.
The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj and the Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the well-known Italian designer, Stefano Boeri, inspected the premises of the two schools, where teaching has started in a part of it.
Veliaj stressed that this project is part of a fantastic program of 17 new schools. “We have 17 schools of this project, in partnership 50 with 50 governments-municipalities, meanwhile I am pleased to mention that we have opened 14 schools in Tirana, thanks to the reconstruction project after the earthquake. The most beautiful we just opened is “Lasgush Poradeci” in Kombinat. “I have the impression that 2021, despite Covid’s problems, will enter the Guinness Book in the city of Tirana as the year when more schools were opened in one hand in the 101 years of Tirana as the capital”, said Veliaj.
The Mayor assured that the new complex offers the best European standards, not only in sports facilities and laboratories, but also for the number of students in the classrooms. The schools “Vaçe Zela”, “Kristo Frashëri”, “Kennedy” and “Mother Teresa”, and the school “Andrea Stefani” at the roundabout of Shqiponjë, finally solve the issue of education in the whole area, starting from Kodër Kamza to Lapraka . We start with a kindergarten, continues to the 9-year-old, who has one floor of the building, then continues with the gymnasium on the other floor, with two gyms, with halls, with 8 laboratory halls, and with classes where the average is European, with 20-25 people. We have finally solved the impasse that we had Unit 9 and Unit 11 with the new schools “, said Veliaj.
The mayor also responded to skeptics regarding the new neighborhood “5 Maji”, which will shelter families affected by the earthquake. “The prime minister rightly asked why the school is not full. The principals put their lips to the gas because they know our inner chatter that in this city doubts and trust collide. In “5 Maji”, another project of Stefano Boer, doubts and trust collide. Those who say no, have nothing to do, these are all 3D, and those others who say have faith, that until 99 things are done, it will become even 100th. But even in the beginning we had a doubt from some parents who said that this will never end, it is better to stay on tour at the school “Ahmet Gashi”, or other schools in the unit. Today 1/3 of the capacity is used. “I am sure that we will exceed half in January, and in September we will have the largest school at the moment in Tirana and Republika, with 100% of the capacity”, he underlined.
Veliaj stressed that thanks to the scheme selected by the government for public-private partnership, children have been guaranteed quality infrastructure within a short time. “I wish you all much success to those who believed in this project and financial concept, the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister who made an experiment that means to build schools today and pay them over the years, in the next seven years, for “It was ensured that the children have the quality and the teaching and the proximity to the community, to their apartment today, not tomorrow”, declared Veliaj.
The new school year 2021-2022 will be remembered as the year when more schools were built in Tirana than ever before, thus going towards the end of shift teaching. The new schools will also serve the residents of the areas as community centers after the development of learning.
