A judge on Wednesday ordered Dutch MP Thierry Baudet to delete four messages on the social network Twitter, after the latter compared the blocking measures against the coronavirus with the treatment of Jews under the Nazi regime.
The leader of the far-right party, the Forum for Democracy, which has five seats in the Dutch parliament, was told he had to delete several social media posts within 48 hours.
Two Jewish organizations and a group of Holocaust survivors went to Amsterdam court to demand the removal of these Twitter posts, as they said they were too offensive and painful for Holocaust survivors and relatives.
Among his posts was one who called people who had not been vaccinated against Covid-19 “young Jews,” while others called for vaccinating the population as Nazis and new NSBs. NSB is the acronym for the Dutch National Socialist Movement, a branch of the Nazi party.
Budet, also posted two photos side by side, showing a child who could not go to the feast of St. Nicholas and the second of a boy from the wartime Lodz ghetto in Poland, who was holding a star of David, before his deportation.
In another post, he posted a photo of the Buchenwald concentration camp, accompanied by the caption: How is it possible not to see how history repeats itself.
The court ordered Baudet to delete the messages posted on Twitter within 48 hours.
If he decides not to delete them, he will have to pay 25 thousand euros every day that they stay online. He has also been barred from using images of the Holocaust as part of the debate over measures taken to fight the coronavirus.
In a Twitter reaction, Baudet called such a decision “crazy and incomprehensible.” He stressed that the court decision would lead to the Appeal.
