The case of 500 thousand euros seized in the port of Durres in June 2020 has ended in court.
Two years after the seizure of nearly 500 thousand euros in the port of Durres, the Durrës prosecution body closes the investigation and sends the case for trial.
The Prosecution at the Court of First Instance of Durrës completes the investigation and sends for trial the defendant A.Th., accused of having committed the criminal offense “Failure to declare money and valuables at the border” and “Laundering the proceeds of crime or criminal activity ”.
In the Prosecution at the Court of First Instance Durrës, criminal proceedings no. 1083 dated 13.06.2020 was registered based on the referral of the judicial police to the Local Police Directorate in charge of this citizen.
Although after finding and seizing the money, the 56-year-old driver of the truck had denied the knowledge of the hidden money, the Durrës accusation suggests that the investigation conducted and with special investigation methods has proven that the defendant A. Th. has committed the criminal offenses “Failure to declare at the border of money and valuables” and “Laundering the proceeds of crime or criminal activity” provided in our criminal legislation.
In order to investigate this criminal proceeding, with decision no. 245/5 dated 26.05.2022 of the Court of First Instance of Durrës, it was decided to impose a preventive sequestration property measure in the amount of 498,850 euros, which were ascertained during the scanner inspection of a “Renault” type truck with license plates TR2046U and TR2048U which was run by citizen A. Th.
The money was found hidden in the connecting bridge of the truck and trailer in five packages of different sizes connected by a wire and a rope with a length of 9 meters, which were not declared at the border crossing point.
The truck where the undeclared money was found hidden often moved on the sea line Durrës-Bari and Bari-Durrës to transport from Italy to Albania materials with raw materials for shoe factories.
Investigations have already been completed and the trial of the 56-year-old from Tirana is expected to begin.
