A five-year-old girl has tragically died in India after being attacked by a herd of wild monkeys while playing with friends in her village.
A little girl named Narmada was playing with her peers near the Nakatiya River in the Uttar Pradesh region when she and her friends were attacked by a large, fierce herd of monkeys.
The local villagers rushed to the aid of the children who started screaming for help and managed to get Narmadan wounded by the monkeys.
Her father Nand Kishore described how his daughter, the youngest of three children, was crying for help when he came to the scene of the attack.
The bloodied child had bite wounds almost all over his body and although he was taken to the hospital he could not survive the wounds.
Speaking to the local daily Times of India, he said: “The monkeys were very aggressive and had bitten my daughter everywhere. “When I came to the place she was screaming for help.”
Bithri Chenpur police chief Ashok Kumar said: “The family will receive compensation under the law for these tragedies.”
“The locals have demanded the killing of monkeys by traps. “We have suggested that they seek help from the forest department on how to act,” he added.
The attack that left a five-year-old child dead is the latest tragedy caused by monkeys in India, where the population of these animals is estimated at around 50 million.
In December terrified residents watched as massive monkey crowds killed more than 200 dogs in the village of Majalgaon, Maharashtra, some of whom were taken to tall buildings to be thrown down by them.
