Two people have been arrested, after seizing 45.5 kilograms of cocaine in the port of Durres last night.
They are the administrator of the company of Northern Macedonia, Arben Ferizi who ordered the meat and Egert Vargu, acting customs agent in the Port of Durres.
Sources from the investigative group suggest that the consignment of chicken meat from Brazil had come on behalf of a company active in the meat processing industry where Ferizi is the administrator.
While Egert Vargu is the head of the customs agency that has performed the customs clearance procedures.
Vargu has been in the position of councilor in the municipality of Tirana, but it is still unknown if he is currently in this position.
A quantity of cocaine was found inside a container of chicken. The drugs were found in a container that had been transited from Brazil, on behalf of a commercial entity in Northern Macedonia.
It is not known whether the amount of cocaine was determined at the place of origin or later between the meat.
Police announce that there are a total of 40 packages weighing 45 kg and 500 grams, wrapped in the famous character of the cartoon, “Dragon Ball”, Goku.
The port of Durres in recent months has become the destination of quantities of drugs, coming from mainly Central and Latin America, both by container and by ship.
The substance is found mainly among bananas, but also other goods. In May, police found 59kg of cocaine on the Colombian ship Unistream, loaded with coal. For this reason, these shipments are called high risk by the police and therefore go through a more detailed filter by both the port authorities and the border police and the criminal police.
Given the fact that cocaine shipments have been continuously detected in the port of Durres for at least the last two years, the authorities are convinced that the largest port in Albania has become a transit route used by drug traffickers.
