Today, the branches of specializations in Medicine are being selected, through an open and transparent process that is taking place at the Faculty of Medicine.
The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu has closely followed the process of selection of specializations, where she said that for the seventh year in a row, we have created stability in this process, after a 4-year period of lack of opening of specializations.
“We have done a systematic work, in order to fill all those vacancies created by the lack of opening of specializations for a period of four years. Already in the seventh year, we have created not only stability in this process, but also a transparent, meritocratic process, in order to select specializations but also to increase the number of specialization quotas. In these seven years, more than 1400 specialization quotas have been opened. This year we open 318 quotas, where 125 quotas are for the Ministry of Health, so that will meet – at the moment that this cycle of specializations will end – the needs in place for defined specialties, starting from the specialties of cardiology, anesthesia-resuscitation , imaging, internal diseases“, Said Manastirliu.
Speaking about meeting the needs with specialist doctors, Manastirliu said:
“The first cycle of contracts, the first hired specialists, ends this year, after the reopening of the specializations. What is actually happening at the moment and which is also a process that we really enjoy, is that some of them are staying in regional hospitals. Another part who have completed the contracts and the obligation to stay in the district hospitals, are being accommodated in the entire public health service. Together with the University of Medicine, the Ministry of Education and Sports, we have decided to increase the number of admission quotas for medical students and we aim that starting this year, the academic year 2022-2023, we will increase by 100 to at 150 admission quotas to the Faculty of Medicinee”.
Speaking about the support of doctors, the Minister of Health said that the increase of salaries, the improvement of the conditions of the health infrastructure and more autonomy will continue, through the new law on hospitals that is expected to be approved soon.
“We will continue to increase salaries. The government’s policy will continue to be in support of doctors, nurses in terms of consecutive salary increases every year. As we did in 2021 with 40% salary increase, starting from July 1 of this year, will increase again 6% salaries for all health personnel in the country. We are working in order to have more autonomy within our hospitals and recently, we have completed the law regarding the hospital service in the Republic of Albania which is expected to be approved soon.“, Said Manastirliu.
