The Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu presented to the Committee on Health and Social Affairs, the draft law on Ratification of the Loan Agreement between the Republic of Albania and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development for additional financing for hospitals, through the project “System Improvement.
“This agreement aims to improve the health system by focusing on hospital reform. The additional funding is worth 25 million euros and is divided into three components. In the infrastructure improvement component; in the health information management improvement component and in the third component monitoring, evaluation, project management and technical assistance ”, said Manastirliu.
Speaking about investments in infrastructure through this project, Manastirliu said that five hospitals will be invested.
The modernization of the University Hospital Center “Mother Teresa” will be completed; through the rehabilitation of the Cardiac Surgery Hospital, the Burn-Plastic Hospital, the Psychiatric Hospital. We will also have the opportunity to complete the rehabilitation of Lezha hospital, Kruja hospital “, tha Manastirliu.
The new agreement also supports the improvement of hospital information management.
“We have already entered an intensive process of digitalization in the hospital care system, where a special importance and focus has been placed on the information system, which has already started its implementation in the first 4 hospitals. “Through this agreement and through funding from this agreement, we aim to extend the hospital information system to 7 other hospitals, including the hospitals of Gjirokastra, Berat, Lezha, Fier, Korca, Dibra and Kukes.”said Manastirliu.
In her speech, Manatirliu said that the need for additional funding increased given the consequences of Covid19, to strengthen our hospitals.
“This additional funding was the right step and comes at the right time, in addition to all the funding that the state budget allocates, both in terms of investment and in terms of operating costs, so that we can continue and move faster and we intensify our efforts to improve and make our hospital system more effective, to bring it closer to the citizens and to have above all the highest quality services “, said Manastirliu.
The Committee on Health and Social Affairs is discussing the draft law on ratification of the loan agreement between the Republic of Albania and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, for additional funding for the project “Improving the health system”.
The purpose of the draft law is to contribute to the modernization of public hospital services and to support the reconstruction of some hospitals damaged by the 2019 earthquake.
Additional funding in the amount of 25 million euros for the project to improve the health system in Albania will provide a direct impact on citizens and further improve the provision of hospital care services in the country.
