With 77 casualties in the last 24 hours, the death toll in Greece since the start of the pandemic has risen to 20,055.
According to official statistics, the country has managed to have since November, twice as many deaths as the average of EU countries per 1 million inhabitants.
The Greek government and pandemic specialists, worried about the continuation of the spread of infections, which yesterday were again over 6000, call for great care during the holidays, while the number of cases with the new variant “Omicron” was Monday and is projected to triple them each week.
Mathematical models estimate that Greece will face the fifth wave in mid-January, where it is not ruled out that the number of daily infections will range from 20,000 to 50,000.
For this reason, one of the measures of the last hours announced by Prime Minister Mitsotakis, excluding the possibility of a new lockdown, is the distribution of two free quick tests for the entire population, one on the eve of Christmas and the other on the eve of New Year.
We emphasize that throughout the country:
-Only vaccinated persons enter the closed premises of restaurants and bars.
– The unvaccinated are allowed to be served only outdoors, with a rapid negative test.
– In all shopping centers and shops, except supermarkets and pharmacies, the vaccinated enter with a vaccination certificate and the unvaccinated with a negative test of the last 48 hours.
At least 10,000 police officers will be on standby these days to check compliance with the measures in city centers, where there is a crowd, in commercial and entertainment facilities. There will also be voice messages from the authorities for the use of masks in these places.
