Rescue team members said today they have found the bodies of 20 people who died of thirst in the Kufra desert in southeastern Libya, near the border with Chad.
Officials added that the bodies of the victims were standing next to their non-functioning vehicle.
The vehicle is believed to have come from Chad to bring in illegal immigrants, as it had entered about 120 kilometers inside Libyan territory before breaking down.
The scene showed officials taking the bodies in decomposition in plastic bags as temperatures in the desert area reach more than 40 degrees Celsius.
Since the overthrow of ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi in the 2011 uprising, Libya has become a haven for migrants to Europe.
This is not the first time that refugees coming from the borders with Chad, Nigeria and Sudan have a sad ending before attempting to cross the Mediterranean.
