The Municipality of Tirana has allocated 15 million ALL to the footballers of the Tirana club, who this year were declared Champions of Albania for the 26th time in their history.
Mayor Erion Veliaj received today the boys of the team, to whom he expressed his gratitude that they brought another important cup to the city of Tirana and stressed that this prize is set only for the players who gave everything on the green field.
“Congratulations on the championship! I am very proud of each of you, of your work, your sacrifice, your families! I do not believe that there is a better year to bring the Albanian Championship Cup to Tirana than this year where Tirana is the European Capital of Youth. “When the balance of Tirana becomes the European Capital of Youth, this victory will be part of the achievements of this city that grows day by day, that works every day, that fights every day, but – as is the case here, – that also wins every day”, he said Veliaj at the reception for the boys of the white and blue team.
He assured that this time, unlike last year, the glory, but also the award of the Municipality of Tirana, will be only for those who worked for the champion title.
“We keep our word and in the next meeting of the Municipal Council we will formalize the check of 15 million ALL as a reward for players and coaches. Many people benefit from the glory of a team, but I want to admit that when we go on the field, when we go to the stadium, we are excited by those who play and train the players. Therefore, I have decided this year to make a correction of the reward, which will go exclusively to those who have contributed to the game and on the field because I believe it is thus more honest. I did not feel well, – I must admit, – when I saw that part of the reward we gave for years was diverted to the relatives of the club shareholders. This does not work! “This is not my personal money, but it belongs to the taxpayers of Tirana”, said Veliaj.
The Mayor said that such awards will be given to all teams in the capital, which will bring a cup to Tirana.
On the other hand, Veliaj added that it can not happen that we have football clubs, which work in the black and with blocked accounts, debts and trials. “This must be resolved once and for all, so when I enter battles in sports, I do not enter them for a specific name. It is not a matter of names, but of principles. If one cannot work illegally in tailoring or pizzeria, then one should not work illegally in football either. Social security must be paid. Therefore, we must bring these battles to an end. “It is miserable today for the Albanian Football Federation to be able to have modest teams in our house, so this must be seen, even where these finances go”, he said.
Veliaj said that in Tirana only the municipality can not invest in football. He stressed that however, investments in sports will continue, such as the pool areas at the Lake Dam, or the opening of gyms in new schools, the Lapraka field and those in Kombinat, which are available to talented children to ‘became someone in football.
