Russian troops have moved even closer to the center of the eastern Ukrainian city of Severodonjeck. District-by-district fighting against Ukrainian forces has turned the city into rubble, foreign media say.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that the situation in the eastern Donbas region is “extremely serious” as Russia has deployed the largest military force there.
“The situation in Donbas is very serious. The Russian army is trying to gather forces in certain areas to increase pressure on our defenders. “The whole force of the Russian army has gathered in Donbas.”– said Zelenksy
Leonid Pasechnik, the Moscow-backed separatist leader in Ukraine’s Luhansk region, told Russia’s TASS news agency that a third of Severodonjeck was “under our control” but that Russian progress had not been as fast as expected. It is reported that 12 thousand civilians have been trapped in this city, without food, water or medicine, recalling the horrible scenes of Mariupol. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov travels to Turkey on June 8th to discuss the creation of safe corridors for the transportation of Ukrainian grain. The announcement was made by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, who confirmed that Lavrov was traveling to Ankara with a military delegation, and that the wheat issue was high on the agenda.
