Two arrests were made today by Mexican authorities after finding the bodies of 10 killed in an off-road vehicle in the central Mexican state of Zacateca.
The discovery was made in a car left outside the historic governor’s building, in the middle of the public square.
Officials began to suspect the Mazda SUV, specifically left out yesterday morning.
Governor David Monreal later announced that two people had been arrested in connection with the macabre incident.
“They came to leave them here in front of the building,” he said of the crime, adding that the victims appeared to have been raped.
The Mexican Ministry of Security said it was sending support for security and conducting investigations.
Mexico has long suffered from high crime rates and high homicide rates among drug trafficking gangs.
The state of Zacateca has seen an escalation of the war for territory between rival traffickers, including several cases of the bodies of the slain appearing in public places.
The mayor of Monreal said in a speech from the scene that the authorities will solve the problem, which according to him was inherited from the previous administration.
“Slowly we will regain our pace. “We have inherited a curse from our predecessors,” he was quoted as saying by the French network AFP.
