So far only two of the bodies recovered from the country have been identified, as rough searches continue to find the other victims of the Sinaloa cartel.
The mass grave of the cartel killers was discovered just 500 meters away from a government office building in Mexico.
Ten bodies have been recovered so far from the desert area near the mud road in San José de los Sauces, near the palace of the mayor of Escobedo Nuevo Leon.
One of the victims identified is Naomi Elizabeth García Arambula, a 22-year-old who went missing on 16 January.
Next is believed to be Mario Parra Márquez, a 28-year-old who disappeared on the same day as Naomi. Both had gunshot wounds.
Investigators are working to determine the identity of other victims but in some cases the victims’ bodies are in an advanced state of decomposition which complicates the work of pathologists.
All the dead are believed to come from the cities where the infamous Sinaloa drug cartel operates. The site of the dumping of the victims was discovered after the arrest of the local head of drug trafficking Alan “el Cano” Ervey.
He was arrested by authorities on January 19 along with seven accomplices in the Guadalupe area of the Monterrey metropolitan area.
Ervey had been a priority of the Nuevo León regional government, as he was wanted for a series of gang killings.
The cartel execution camp could hold other troops and police are guarding the site as investigations continue.
