The position and the opposition in the Assembly of Kosovo have clashed over the efficiency of the work of the Kurti Government, on the 1st anniversary of the victory of the Vetëvendosje Movement on February 14 last year.
While the ruling party considered the work of the executive successful, the opposition called it the weakest government in the history of Kosovo. LVV MP, Armend Muja said that the Kurti Government has fulfilled the four main program pillars.
“The government has come up with four main program pillars. The first was vaccination, the second was the restoration of jobs in the context of the economic crisis, the third was the restoration of law and order, the fight against crime and corruption, and the fourth was the dignity of Kosovo in terms of foreign policy. The first in terms of vaccination when we arrived we were the last without hope, today we are the first in the region. In the vaccination process today we are a leader in the region. Second, in terms of economic recovery I will give some figures that are relevant to society.
We understand that Kosovo has economic difficulties and there are difficulties in the labor market. Yet it is the data that denies what he says. When we came to power, Kosovo had jobs that were extremely affected, while if you look at all the reports, according to TAK and the trust, there are around 410 thousand registered jobs or tax payers. We have to wait for the real unemployment data, but I have to remind you that in 2019 there were 387 thousand. The second is the economic growth that the CBK says was 9.9 percent real growth and the third Kosovo’s budget revenues “, he said.
The successes that the Kurti Government is presenting, the head of the PDK Parliamentary Group, Abelard Tahiri considered as successes of independent institutions and state agencies.
He said the government cabinet has been clumsy and has been one of the weakest governments since declaring independence.
“We have seen extremely great awkwardness, we have seen a government of the weakest since the declaration of independence of Kosovo. On the other hand the work of independent institutions and state agencies that have worked extremely well such as customs, TAK and other institutions should not be related to governance. As it should bring new projects, new investments and strategies that the country develops.
We have not seen such a thing. While the non-engagement of the Government of Kosovo in a timely manner, you have seen that the life of our country has become more difficult, we have increased prices of each product including derivatives, then essential food products. “We have an increase in the price of life in the country and an increase in the price of electricity”, he said.
The head of the AAK Parliamentary Group, Besnik Tahiri, also expressed the same line.
“Unfortunately we are dealing with a government that is very weak. With a government which apart from rising prices, electricity and lack of vision in foreign policy and dialogue has produced nothing. “I had said in short that this government for this year will be recognized as the weakest government in the history of post-war Kosovo”, he said.
MP Muja considered these claims of the opposition as inaccurate.
“The claim of colleagues that the Government is the weakest is incorrect and does not need much review. In fact, for the previous government, we all have an agreement that was the weakest in Kosovo, it is not our consensus but it is an international consensus “, he stressed.
The deputies made these comments after the meeting of the Presidency of the Assembly, where it was decided to hold a solemn session on Thursday in honor of the 14th anniversary of Kosovo’s independence.
“On Thursday, a solemn session will be held, while from next week there are some points that are relevant to society. What we want to emphasize here is that there are two important laws regarding the fight against corruption that have been the essential program items of the LVV have entered the agenda.
They are the Draft Law on the State Bureau for verification and confiscation of unjustifiable property and two, is the Draft Law on the declaration of origin and control of property and gifts. Also on the agenda is the Draft Law on the Accreditation Agency, which as part of the reforms is highlighted in the Progress Report. We have also agreed that next week there will be a debate regarding the dialogue and foreign policy of Kosovo “, said the LVV MP, Armend Muja.
Asked about the relations with the deputies of the Guxo List, after the certification of the latter as a political party, Muja said that they are excellent.
“The parliamentary mood between us and the Guxo List has been extremely excellent. We have also been aware of the MPs’ initiative to create a political entity, which is not uncommon. “Meanwhile, the working atmosphere is excellent, I have not noticed any difference”, he concluded.
